STINGAR Platform Version 2.2 announced

December 18, 2025 – Chapel Hill, NC Forewarned Inc. announces an updated version of the successful STINGAR platform.

The STINGAR v2.2 version builds upon the significant redesign of the v2.1 platform, further improving the capture, analysis and maintenance of threat intelligence data for Higher Education and Research networks. The latest version of the STINGAR platform incorporates feedback from our 80+ partners and adds powerful new features that expand the platform’s capabilities for managing real-time threat intelligence data.

The STINGAR Version 2.2 platform contains the following updates:

New Honeypot Store – A centralized repository that enables users to discover, download, and install new honeypot configurations developed by the STINGAR team. This feature provides access to additional honeypot types beyond the default installations, allowing organizations to expand their threat detection capabilities. Users can browse available honeypots, search and filter by category, and seamlessly install new configurations into their STINGAR library. The store also includes a community-driven request system where users can submit requests for new honeypot types to be developed.

DNS Vulnerability Scanner – A new security tool that allows users to scan domain names for known vulnerabilities. This proactive security assessment tool helps organizations identify potential security issues associated with their domains by querying external vulnerability databases. The scanner provides detailed results in an organized, actionable format, allowing security teams to track and manage vulnerability remediation efforts.

Enhanced Integration – Improved integration with the HP App Store for remote honeypot management, including automatic metadata synchronization, configuration management, and seamless installation workflows.

Updated UI – Built with the latest software technology incorporating several features:

  • Improved Honeypot deployment and lifecycle management & maintenance.
  • Improved visibility of threat data with a new dashboard, attack severity level indicator and enhanced enrichment.
  • Updated Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) Compliance – All docker images built with support for both ARM & Intel/AMD based architectures, with clean software dependency provenance.

This update is free to all existing licensees of the STINGARv2 platform and requires a simple process taking only a few minutes to download and install the newest version. This brings the platform into SBOM provenance compliance for all components and will simplify the process for future updates and compliance.

The platform will continue to be updated with new features and bug fixes into the future. Also, look for a major new release of a cloud native version of STINGAR coming in 2026.
